Tarena Tahiti is the first Tahitian Calendar audition of its kind featuring dancers: solos, groups and musicians from various “pupu ori” (dance companies). Nemenzo Group from the San Francisco Bay Area, concieved by Elizabeth Nemenzo Bertumen, has been producing Tarena Tahiti since 2001. Tarena has three calendars for each age group: Tamari’i (children), Taure’are’a (Junior) and Pa‘ari/Pupu ori (Adults/Groups). Candidates range from age 5 yrs to adult with a keen interest and appreciation of the Tahitian culture.

This year, the San Francisco State University will provide an intimate setting for the Tahitian and Polynesian artisans. The full day’s event features beautiful costumes, talented dancers and musicians, set on location at the intimate San Francisco State University Gym, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA.

s2004 Judges: Roiti Sylva, Anthony Manaois, Turere Mataoa and Franckie Taae.

With an experienced panel of judges, from Tahiti, Hawaii and California, each year Tarena sets an exciting presentation of Tahitian Dance and Music. Held annually in September, the beautiful calendars are available as a commemorative piece to be appreciated in years to come.

This event makes good use of the beautiful costumes exhibited in the various fetes, competitions and heivas. The winners will have photo sessions near the City’s other beautiful landmarks, the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf. With the holidays and the year end just around the corner, we invite you to gather and once again sing dance in beautiful San Francisco, the “City by the Bay.”
